The Summer Solstice
There is a certain magic in the air as the energy of Saturday’s Summer Solstice quietly permeates the air. This time of year as the Sun enters the cardinal sign of Cancer is a time for cultivation and fruition of the plans laid down and worked upon since the Winter Solstice back in December, (keep in mind that astrology originates in the Northern Hemisphere).
For centuries cultures and traditions from all over the world assigned a great deal of meaning to the Sun reaching its most northern point in the sky (south for the winter). Bonfires, circles of fire and bathing in the dew of the morning grass were ways of worshipping the fire and water elements. The word Solstice is a Latin derivative which means ‘sun’ and ‘standing still.’ Although the Sun technically doesn’t have retrograde cycles, it does appear to stand still for approximately three days after a Solstice. The Sun now having reached its furthermost northern point on the ecliptic, he slowly turns and begins to head south for the winter solstice. This movement can be witnessed by seeing how the sun’s highest point at day time (noon) will be slightly lower in winter than in summer.
The elements of fire and water are combined now to promote new growth. The power of the Sun is at its peak with the Moon’s ancient association with agriculture and new life in all its forms are abundant now. The Moons connection to water and emotions also reminds us that this is a particularly special time to strengthen bonds with loved ones, especially family due to the Moon’s of ruling Cancer.
The events of the last few days are likely to manifest over the next 6 months and the first fruit of your harvest will be presenting itself to you now.
Early AM (Sydney time) the Moon will dip into her watery cousin, Pisces, for her 48th stay further amplifying the strong water/emotional vibe. Sensitivity is heightened now and even though the crab seems tough on the outside, underneath it all they are really just Pisceseans in armour!

Happy Birthday Cancer
Its likely that this week’s Full Moon may not hold the promise normally expected by the lunar light in Sagittarius. In fact, with Mercury stationing this week general to and fro-ing communication will slow right down as a planet is said to hold a lot of power when it is in this state. Mercury known as the trickster in the cosmos has free reign to cause as much havoc as he sees fit this week before he moves in direct motion. Be extra cautious whilst scheduling appointments, get togethers and expect the occasional email may go amiss!
Despite the news that three more planets have been discovered, for most astrologers, the proverbial buck stops at Pluto where he too has dipped back into his final swan song in Sagittarius for at least another 250 years. A lot has happened since Pluto entered the sign of the archer back in 1995 for all of us as individuals as well as globally. At a deep unconscious level, some unfinished business is likely to show up again for you to deal with so the slate can be finally wiped clean by late November 2008 when the Lord of Darkness returns to Capricorn. Depending on what your personal Pluto story is in your birth chart Pluto will indicate what demons you potentially face again.
One door closes and another door opens…
Being one of my favourite sayings, this aptly depicts the astro landscape this week. Wednesday being the day of Mercury and the winged messenger himself moves direct, we also have Venus moving into mothering Cancer, by the end of the week so will the Sun- the Winter Solstice here in the Southern Hemisphere. Cancer represents many things- one of those being emotional security and with the Sun and Venus here feeling safe becomes important now- money just isn’t enough anymore there has to be something else. Striking the balance between financial (the opposing sign of Capricorn) security and security within one’s own skin is a seemingly never ending juggling act- catching the ball that is right for you will be easier over the upcoming month.
Being a ‘moon month’ with the Sun in the sign of the Moon, it will be an emotional and sensitive time now. Even the Cancerians with the toughest exoskeletons are not immune to a few emotional outbreaks during the coming weeks.
In the popularised Sun sign astrology columns, the importance of the emotional Moon is often overlooked- to find out your Moon story book in for a reading.

Out with the old…
The Moon has now settled mid-way through super organised Virgo. The next 24 hours are about crossing off your to do list whether that be your small day to day tasks and reminders or your longer term Saturn style plans. Each month when the Moon meets with Saturn (the next time is July 7) you will feel the proverbial tap on the shoulder that reminds you of your greater plan. Take this as an opportunity to refocus and reprioritise what is most valuable to you now. The current first quarter Moon phase will offer you the energy and gusto required to move ever closer to something bigger. As the cosmic interlude between the Sun and Venus continue doors will open with ease as you figure out who you are and what you want- no one will say no to your demands now.
Unfortunately in life, as with astrology- something often must be parted with before something can be attained, which is symbolic of the current Mars and South Node conjunction gathering momentum over the next couple of days. For those who are said to be melancholic in temperament (a traditional astrological term) this will prove difficult as letting go is not one of your best virtues. If something or someone (particularly a male as Mars is masculine) has been draining your vitality and energy or if a certain situation really needs clearing from your life, you’ll be surprised just how easy this will be now. Decisions will be reached with greater impulse than you may be used to. The theme for the next few days is endings and release- what can you let go of now in order to be where you want to be?

New Moon In Gemini
Despite 4 planets in Mercury ruled Gemini and one in Virgo, Mercury isn’t in the best shape to deliver his New Moon promises at 5:22am 4th June (14 degrees Gemini). Long standing issues or things that have been put on hold will take some extra time to pan out. Good news will be met with delays or with exceptions now and with feisty Mars in close consort you may need to resort to a little more assertiveness than usual. Reviewing recent issues and how you’d approach them if you could wind back the clock will be the permeating theme over the next 48 hrs. The New Moon always promises a fresh start so despite an initial one step forward, two steps back you will eventually get your message across.

Mercury Strikes Back!
There’s a lot of chatter going on with the element of air taking a huge portion of the sky right now. Flirty Gemini and free thinking Aquarius promise that conversations may just go where no man has gone before. The Sun, Mercury and Venus now in Gemini coupled with the Moon, Chiron, The North Node and Neptune all lining up Aquarius ensure a busy headspace. Saturn’s link reminds us that in most of our day to day dealings with people caution/ boundaries are required. Now that Mercury has stopped and about to turn retrograde in just a few short hours (Sydney time) unless care is used, you may have to eat your words a little down the track.
Mercury appears to move backward in the sky in the constellation of Gemini from 26 May- 19 June this year. Mercury is the ruler of Gemini, meaning he has extra strength in this placement which may imply that the next three weeks could be absolute havoc. With no major aspects during his Rx period, Mercury is most definitely off the cosmic leash. Alternatively, those little things that become extra annoying in a Mercury Rx phase may not be a problem to due his strength in the sign placement.
As always, Retrogrades are always an excellent time for reviewing, rethinking, redoing and revising. As a general guide, don’t start any new projects now but use the ‘re’ vibe to negotiate your terms but sign on the dotted line after the 19th. Back up all computer documents and files and don’t make any purchases that require a warranty. Be prepared for wires to be crossed in all aspects of life, particularly where 13-21 degrees of Gemini lie in your chart. Above all, Mercury retrograde in my opinion is the best time to slow down and contemplate life- like a personal three month review.
Last week an Astrological event of epic proportions was held where some of the best astrologers of the world gathered for UAC which was held in Denver, Colorado. Yours truly unfortunately didn’t attend but she will be stocking up on some of the lecture CD/MP3 recordings. These are available for purchase here.

Dark Light
Day, night. Black, white. Hot, cold. Love, hate. Scorpio Moon, Sagittarius Moon.
The mood has lifted with the Moon shifting from the murky still waters of Scorpio to the optimistic and adventure seeking Sagittarius. Knowledge and wisdom is now favoured over physical and/or emotional gain. The Sun also has shifted from pleasure seeking Taurus and into the mental headspace of Gemini. Coupled with the Sag Moon, the vibe for the next 48 hrs or so promises to be information overload. Gather up what you can now and sift through it all later when Gemini’s lord Mercury, begins to shift retrograde which happens from 26 May- 19 June.
Mercury retrograde can be a bothersome time. More detail are required in the day to day rituals which are normally taken for granted- be it your ISP, your car or that holiday you intend on taking on the long weekend in June, you can nearly guarantee something will go haywire. However, Mercury retrograde is an opportune time to consolidate, re-think and review. With Saturn currently occupying the other Mercury ruled sign of Virgo, a little more analysis will be required before final decisions are made. Unpredictable Uranus also makes his presence felt during Mercury’s backward passage. Exciting ideas and flashes of inspiring ideas may have to wait for action til July- just write them down for now. An easy link from shadowy Neptune further clouds mental clarity. This is the classic time to breathe and be flexible- yoga anyone? Embrace the mutable quality of the heavens now and just go with the flow.

The next Young Astrologers meeting is tomorrow night. Email me if you wish to attend or to just be kept in the YAA loop!
When Love and Death Embrace
Sensual. Exciting. Intoxicating. Sexy. Hypnotic. Dark. Forbidden. Wicked. Desire. Obsession. Secrets. Confessions. Die. Death. Embrace. Love.
The axis of desire is shifting into perfect alignment in the form tomorrow’s Full Moon in Scorpio (12:11pm Sydney time). The second of two Scorpio Full Moons in a month highlights intensity, control, desire and all the other words mentioned above. With Venus and Neptune involved idyllic, vague and a tendency toward deception infiltrates the cosmos now.
I have been listening to one of my favourite bands- a Finnish metal band- HIM a lot lately. The deep, dark and angst ridden lyrics (below) with a slight gothic edge perfectly encapsulates the current cosmic energy. With a new album/single entitled “Venus Doom” check out the astro symbology in this preview video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLmz8cDgG4k&NR=1
Open your arms and let me show you what love can be like
It's all tears and it will be 'til the end of your time
Come closer my love
Will you let me tear your heart apart?
Now all hope is gone so drown in this love
I'm waiting for you to drown in my love
So open your arms
I'm waiting for you to open your arms
And drown in this love
So my love your laughter is finally turning into tears
And you're begging for more though the end is getting near
Come closer my love
I'll violate you in the most sensual way... until you drown in this
love
I'm waiting for you to drown in my love
During the course of tomorrow night, both the Sun and the Moon move into much lighter territory in the form of Gemini and Sagittarius respectively. From out of the shadows and into the light. More on that tomorrow!

With the premiere of the new Sex and the City movie- click on the picture above to check out at an Astrological perspective on the main character, Carrie. I have always wondered if the characters in the show had birth charts, what sign would they be? My bet is that Carrie is an Aquarian, friendly yet detached with unrooly hair! Samantha is probably a Scoprio, sex for her is pure fornication- no pleasure required. Miranda, in my opinion is a Capricorn- her status in her career seemed to always be the most important, whereas Charlotte could be a Libran. Her life goal was always to be in the happily ever after.
Have you ever wondered what star sign the stars of Sex and the City would be and why? If so, email me with your thoughts and Astrological opinions for the chance to win a copy of WellBeing Astrology guide 2008. Entries close with the Aussie launch of the movie on 30th May. The winners entry will be published on cassandratyndall.com and astro*cass.
Good luck!

Calling YAA’ers- our next gathering is Tuesday 20 May. Even if you can’t make it to some or all meetings but still wish to be kept in the loop of the Young Astrologers Association (Sydney), email me. For further details, visit this page
Here comes the Sun.
I didn’t intend to do another post today, but when a dash of inspiration comes...
It has been a struggle to find energy the last couple of days. One could blame my lack of vitality on numerous things, not enough of this, too much of that- stress, diet, not enough exercise are all common complaints with our modern lifestyles. Even a Hindu Swami said to me the other day, ‘Cassandra, you must meditate more.’ In my mind I thought- if only I had the time- but knowing his disapproving frown all too well, I just smiled reluctantly and said, ‘I know Swami-gi, I’ll try.’ If only any of us had the time to do all the “shoulds” in life! To make matters worse, tomorrow morning I face my yoga teacher and her Sun/Pluto conjunction in Virgo!
I contemplated the conversations I had had over the last few days and my response to them. “Cass you should do this, Cass you should do that.” My mobile (cell) would ring and I’d let it go to voicemail and who knows when I will return any of the calls, or even some emails for that matter. Social invitations are being met with a vague reception, either forgetting when they are on, choosing to not show or being non committal. To be honest, I am at my happiness right now either burying my head in an astrology book, watching episodes of Sex and the City on my laptop (with beloved Shih Tzu in my lap) or writing lists of the things I intend to do when I get my mojo back. I have all but put up the ‘don’t disturb sign’ on my life!
The point of this long winded story? The Sun entered my 12th house two days ago and since, hibernation and a deep contemplation of what I am doing with myself and my life as followed. Drawing up lists, making mental notes, planning the future with a secret sense of enthusiasm and will, albeit knowing the time is not yet nigh. Relishing in daydreaming and imagining all the ‘what if’s’ ‘but maybe’s’ as well as ‘if only’s’ only now seeing them as doable- no longer out of reach, are all part of a daily 12th house reality.
Many Astrologers focus on transits- the day to day movement of the planets and how they ‘talk’ to the planets in the personal and/ or progressed horoscope. Sometimes, the most obvious planet is overlooked - the Sun. Astrologically, the Sun represents our vitality, our core, ego and sense of self. By sign and house, it symbolises our eternal life path and who we aspire to be. Its movement from sign to sign and house to house every month or so is a reminder of where our essence, light and warmth is directed toward each and every day. The movement of the Sun is a like mini- cycle that occurs on a month to month basis that happens at the same time every year for each year of your life. By recognising the path of the Sun and how he ‘communicates’ against the backdrop of your birth chart, you can plan your high and low times, your social times, your time to be at home with family, the time to focus on finance and the time to spend with your most significant other. So simple and yet so fascinating!
